I'm going to take an educated guess that you've already read Part 1 of this take on eight creative partnerships in French cinema and you're here to read about the remaining four couples, so what are we waiting for:
Agnes Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri met in 1987 whilst rehearsing Harold Pinter’s L’Anniversaire (The Birthday Party) and both realised more or less at once that they were compatible both creatively and personally. They formed a relationship - some sources indicate that they did in fact marry - that endures to this day (although again there have been recent rumours of a split) and has so far produced two stage playsand eight screenplays (including film adaptations of the stage plays). Initially they were content merely to write a play/screenplay together and then appear in leading roles, but eventually Jaoui assumed a third role, that of director, making their partnership the only one of the eight classified as Directress-Actor rather than Director-Actress....To read all the analysis click here

Agnes Jaoui es un canto a la naturalidad. Cálida y accesible, es creíble cuando dice que si tiene la mínima oportunidad, viene a la Argentina “porque es un país generoso conmigo como pocos en el mundo”. Directora y actriz francesa de origen tunecino, Agnes pasó hace unos meses por Buenos Aires. “Siento un vínculo muy fuerte con este país, por eso decidí regresar”.
¿Por qué esa extraña unión?
Cuestión de piel. Cuando me dicen Argentina, siento un escalofrío, creo que yo tengo mucho que ver con el temperamento de esta ciudad, con el ánimo que se respira aquí, soy muy melancólica, muy porteña...

Q : On a beaucoup écrit sur vous deux. Concernant Agnès, les traits qui reviennent souvent sont ceux d'une " jeune femme, généreuse ", mais " timide, faussement assurée ", " sur le fil du rasoir, en quête de sens et d'équilibre " qui " se dévalorise continuellement ". Sans doute le fait des rôles que tu as interprétés. Qu'en penses-tu ?
A.J : Je ne connais pas cette image. Je la découvre même. Quelque part, je n'ai pas envie qu'on sache ce que je suis. Je n'ai pas envie qu'on me connaisse. Ce n'est pas à moi de dire : " Oui ! je suis généreuse, non ! je ne suis pas ceci. ". Il y a dans ce portrait des choses justes et d'autres fausses. Je pense être sincère dans les réponses aux questions qu'on me pose dans les limites de mon intimité. Je pense également que souvent les gens, sans forcément de mauvaises intentions, vous collent une étiquette. C'est pratique. Jean-Pierre, qui est de façon plus évidente caricaturable, n'a rien à voir avec l'image qu'on veut bien donner de lui.
J.-P.B. : Cela fait longtemps que j'ai abandonné. Je laisse dire.
A.J. : C'est plus pratique de nous présenter comme, " lui, fort en gueule, elle, une timide ". En plus, je suis une femme : ça tombe bien.
Q : Jean-Pierre, tu es invariablement présenté comme une grande gueule ", qui " fait rire jaune, comme son teint d'hypocondriaque ".
